The list of symptoms for B12 deficiency is very long indeed. While most are mild, some can be severe. So let us take you through what you need to look for.
B12 is often called the energy vitamin, so it is no surprise to find out that one of the symptoms of deficiency is feeling tired all the time. This can also show up as difficulty concentrating. Another mild symptom is a little numbness or tingling in the hands and feet.

While some of these symptoms may seem mild, B12 deficiency can be very serious and can even lead to death. So if you have any of these symptoms, you should get them checked out sooner rather than later.
A lack of B12 can cause anemia, due to the fact that it inhibits red-blood cell growth and the body's ability to carry oxygen to the brain, nervous system and organs.
This lack of oxygen to the brain can lead to depression and mood swings. More serious is the fact that a deficiency has also been linked to Bipolar disorder.
Yet more symptoms include visual problems, such as blurred vision, and also taste and balance problems.
Other reported symptoms include a tingling tongue, facial spasms or pain, and migraines.
The good news is that Vitamin B12 deficiency can easily be diagnosed via a blood test. If you are deficient though, it could be for one of two reasons.
Firstly, you may not be getting enough B12 in your diet. Secondly, your body may be lacking in intrinsic factor, so may not be able to use the B12 that you are getting.
This is an important point, because if you are lacking in intrinsic factor, there is not much point taking a cyanocobalamin form of B12, as the body probably won't absorb enough of it. In these cases you would probably need B12 injections, or a B12 patch made from the methylcobalamin form of the vitamin, as this is more easily absorbed by the body.
